A Short Walk From the Point
Pavones is a left-hand point break that runs for over a kilometre on the right swell. The hostel is close enough that your morning starts by walking down to read the wave, not driving around to find it.

The Surf Around Pavones
Pavones is a long, forgiving left. The face opens at the top of the point, then walls up for a fast ride that rewards intermediate and advanced surfers. It is not a beginner wave on a big day, though longboarders do well on smaller mornings.
It works best on south and southwest swells, so the green season from May to October is the most consistent window. When the point is small or busy, the Río Claro rivermouth and Punta Banco are a short drive away.

Getting Here
Reaching Pavones takes effort, which is part of why it stays quiet.
Send your arrival details when you enquire and we will share current bus times or a reliable driver contact.
Fly into San José (SJO) or Liberia (LIR).
Take a short domestic flight to Golfito with SANSA, or drive down the coast in six to seven hours.
From Golfito it is about an hour by road. The last stretch is dirt but fine in a normal car in the dry season.
